#71 - Hurricanes, Robots, and Sunburns

(00:00:05):
is the unfiltered union i'm linds and i'm russ here is this week's episode you know

(00:00:14):
almost every single time we do a podcast i make fun of you for sunburn i can't make

(00:00:19):
fun of you this time yeah because you too ha

(00:00:23):
I got wrecked yesterday.

(00:00:24):
Uh-huh.

(00:00:26):
Badly.

(00:00:26):
It is, yeah, painful.

(00:00:29):
It hurts.

(00:00:30):
It hurts real bad.

(00:00:31):
It hurts so bad that solar recover is struggling to keep up.

(00:00:37):
That's just my face.

(00:00:39):
I got the raccoon eyes again, but yours is like your whole body.

(00:00:42):
Yeah.

(00:00:43):
I don't.

(00:00:44):
Outside is awful.

(00:00:46):
Outside.

(00:00:47):
Well, I mean, Mother Nature does some crazy things.

(00:00:50):
Enter Helene and Milton.

(00:00:53):
Helene.

(00:00:53):
Helene.

(00:00:54):
I still stand by.

(00:00:55):
Helen.

(00:00:56):
If you say so.

(00:00:58):
But it just feels like this is probably the first weekend that we've had that's kind of normal.

(00:01:03):
Yeah.

(00:01:05):
Since all the hurricanes.

(00:01:06):
Yeah.

(00:01:06):
Oh, I agree because it's been nonstop.

(00:01:11):
We've had trash build up in our house because there's no trash service out here.

(00:01:16):
They finally restarted it, but now they paused it again because they're getting overflowed with trash.

(00:01:22):
yard debrice debris debris and it's crazy yeah the city of tampa just stopped

(00:01:30):
recycling service and i believe they did stop residential trash service for now

(00:01:36):
crazy yeah our our garage smelled like old food oh i don't even want to trash it

(00:01:45):
was nasty

(00:01:46):
Yeah, but even driving around, when we would go to, we shop at Aldi for our groceries.

(00:01:53):
Exactly.

(00:01:54):
Put your own bags in a quarter.

(00:01:57):
The quarter thing.

(00:01:58):
Yeah, that's a nightmare.

(00:02:00):
Quarters at Aldi are the bane of my shopping existence.

(00:02:04):
We went yesterday and we lost our trusty quarter.

(00:02:08):
We had to dig through our car to try and find a freaking quarter.

(00:02:12):
It took us 20 minutes of our Aldi trip to find a quarter just so we could get a cart.

(00:02:19):
Well.

(00:02:19):
Anyways, driving to and from Aldi, we go through places that are near the river.

(00:02:25):
Yes.

(00:02:26):
And by the river,

(00:02:27):
down by the river,

(00:02:28):
I sound like Chris Farley,

(00:02:30):
there was debris and people's houses flooded.

(00:02:33):
So all their furniture was on the curbside for after Helene.

(00:02:37):
Right.

(00:02:38):
Well, after Milton... I don't know where that furniture's at.

(00:02:42):
Double.

(00:02:43):
Like, it's double now.

(00:02:45):
The amount of debris, the amount of things that are now at the curb.

(00:02:48):
It's crazy.

(00:02:49):
And like you said, Hillsborough County is struggling to keep up with all of it.

(00:02:53):
So...

(00:02:54):
It's just a mess out here.

(00:02:56):
Yeah.

(00:02:56):
And just to be clear, Hillsborough County is what is in Tampa is in Hillsborough County.

(00:03:04):
It's insane.

(00:03:06):
It's definitely that was the worst one we've had since we've been here.

(00:03:11):
And we were here for Ian, too.

(00:03:12):
And Ian was at five upon landfall.

(00:03:15):
But we got lucky, unfortunately, for other people down in Fort Myers that

(00:03:20):
veered south at the last second.

(00:03:23):
It was supposed to hit us head on.

(00:03:24):
Mm-hmm.

(00:03:25):
Absolutely in burial grounds, man.

(00:03:26):
Oh, yeah.

(00:03:27):
Keep it coming.

(00:03:27):
Well, it kind of did the same thing for this one, but a little bit closer to our disadvantage.

(00:03:33):
We were in the northern eyewall where we live, which is where the highest winds and rains are.

(00:03:41):
And it was dicey.

(00:03:43):
I'm not going to lie.

(00:03:43):
It scared the shit out of me.

(00:03:45):
I couldn't sleep.

(00:03:45):
I went to bed finally at about 5 a.m.,

(00:03:48):
after the majority of it passed us,

(00:03:51):
but it was...

(00:03:53):
It's like a tornado that doesn't stop after 30 seconds.

(00:04:00):
Right.

(00:04:02):
It's hours.

(00:04:02):
Watch the house literally, like,

(00:04:06):
Yeah, we have sliding doors in our neighborhood that are in our backyards.

(00:04:12):
And they're big sliding doors.

(00:04:14):
And that thing was flexing.

(00:04:16):
I swore that was going to break.

(00:04:17):
That was crazy.

(00:04:18):
Watch it.

(00:04:19):
I swore it was going to shift.

(00:04:22):
Yeah.

(00:04:22):
And then the problem with windows breaking is then your house gets essentially

(00:04:30):
pressurized from the inside.

(00:04:32):
And then it can blow your roof off.

(00:04:34):
So that was a big concern for me.

(00:04:36):
Yeah, it was definitely it was definitely crazy.

(00:04:40):
But on top of it all, we watched Dennis Phillips.

(00:04:44):
I can't say enough about him as a local weatherman,

(00:04:47):
like just keeping us sane and aware and not freaking out.

(00:04:54):
Rule number seven.

(00:04:55):
I was still freaking out.

(00:04:57):
The problem with hurricanes is you know they're coming.

(00:05:00):
Right, but that's also a good thing.

(00:05:03):
That's also the benefit.

(00:05:04):
Yeah, but if you're going to hunker down like we did, you're like, okay, come on, just hurry up.

(00:05:09):
Please, dear God.

(00:05:11):
Did you say it was like getting stalked by a turtle?

(00:05:14):
Yes, that's what Dennis Phillips says.

(00:05:16):
I love him.

(00:05:17):
He keeps me sane during those times.

(00:05:20):
Moments of the news drawing it out, sensationalizing it, and everybody's going to.

(00:05:27):
So he gives us the real of it, right?

(00:05:30):
We're going to be in the northern eye wall.

(00:05:31):
There's going to be the fastest winds,

(00:05:32):
probably the most damage to houses like he gives you the real of it,

(00:05:36):
but he doesn't make you freak out.

(00:05:39):
So I appreciate him.

(00:05:40):
I was.

(00:05:41):
I'm not going to lie, though.

(00:05:42):
He got a little.

(00:05:44):
It seemed like he got a little nervous.

(00:05:45):
Number seven.

(00:05:46):
You're right.

(00:05:46):
Yeah, he did.

(00:05:47):
He said he was like, don't freak out.

(00:05:49):
He said, now is not the time to freak out.

(00:05:51):
It's the time for action.

(00:05:52):
I was like, what does that mean?

(00:05:55):
Run!

(00:05:57):
But the problem with running, you couldn't.

(00:06:00):
There was no gas.

(00:06:01):
There was gridlock traffic.

(00:06:03):
People were running out of gas on I-75 to get out of Tampa and go north.

(00:06:09):
Yep.

(00:06:10):
People were trying to go to Orlando.

(00:06:12):
On I-4.

(00:06:12):
On I-4.

(00:06:13):
Gridlock.

(00:06:15):
And then there's just no gas anywhere.

(00:06:17):
We're still recovering from the gas shortage now.

(00:06:22):
We're trying to get like stability in our gas system.

(00:06:26):
Making that last quarter of a tank.

(00:06:29):
Oh, yeah.

(00:06:29):
Yeah.

(00:06:30):
You just if you have an EV, you kind of made out a little bit unless it got flooded and caught fire.

(00:06:36):
Yeah.

(00:06:38):
That.

(00:06:39):
OK.

(00:06:40):
Well, I mean, EV is kind of it kind of lends to one of our topics.

(00:06:43):
I don't know if we're going to

(00:06:45):
Not there yet.

(00:06:45):
Come on, man.

(00:06:47):
I was trying to segue.

(00:06:48):
He tried.

(00:06:49):
It was cute.

(00:06:50):
I'm not good at this.

(00:06:52):
So we had the kids out for nine days out of school.

(00:06:57):
I think when we lived in Virginia...

(00:07:00):
The longest kids were out of school was probably close to a month.

(00:07:04):
If you think back to what was it, 2010, March 2010.

(00:07:08):
The big blizzard.

(00:07:11):
Yeah, that one put kids out of school for multiple weeks.

(00:07:14):
I would say almost maybe two or three, close to a month.

(00:07:20):
And these kids were out for nine days for this hurricane.

(00:07:23):
And then they had.

(00:07:24):
You can see my nips in this shirt.

(00:07:27):
Sorry.

(00:07:27):
Keep going.

(00:07:31):
Then they had, what, three or four days for Helene.

(00:07:36):
So hurricane days are real down here.

(00:07:38):
Yeah, it's been over two weeks for the kids here.

(00:07:42):
It's crazy.

(00:07:44):
And the parents are losing their minds.

(00:07:47):
Like,

(00:07:47):
we have Facebook neighborhood groups,

(00:07:50):
and all the parents are like,

(00:07:51):
where are these kids going back?

(00:07:52):
Can somebody watch my children?

(00:07:54):
Well, everybody's like, put the kids to work.

(00:07:56):
Put the kids to work.

(00:07:57):
They'll pick up all the yard bags.

(00:07:58):
stuff everywhere which seriously i had to tell myself at one point that it's a

(00:08:03):
marathon it is not you know a quick hundred yard dash to get all this debris picked

(00:08:08):
up although some of our neighbors did it that quickly which good on them but gosh

(00:08:12):
but the funny part though is they picked it up but it's sitting in front of their

(00:08:16):
house now waiting to be picked up picked up yeah because of all the debris as you

(00:08:21):
the debris yeah yes i'm fancy and i'm french

(00:08:25):
But did you see that the stingrays had to actually go back to the Tampa Aquarium that were in the.

(00:08:31):
I'm not surprised the roof got ripped off.

(00:08:34):
Uh-huh.

(00:08:35):
So the Tampa Rays, Tampa Bay Rays.

(00:08:39):
Tropicana Stadium.

(00:08:40):
At Tropicana Stadium, they actually have a stingray.

(00:08:45):
that you can actually have your kids go touch stingrays while at the game.

(00:08:49):
It's really cool.

(00:08:50):
But the poor things had to get moved because the whole roof of the Tropicana got

(00:08:55):
ripped off during Milton.

(00:08:57):
It was scary.

(00:08:58):
I wonder what they were thinking.

(00:08:59):
TV.

(00:09:00):
Oh, my God.

(00:09:02):
What is that?

(00:09:03):
There's probably more.

(00:09:04):
Well,

(00:09:04):
other than being in a small tank,

(00:09:05):
but they're probably more used to it than us because I don't know in the ocean.

(00:09:10):
I don't know.

(00:09:11):
Is it safer underwater?

(00:09:13):
You think during a hurricane in the ocean?

(00:09:15):
I would think so.

(00:09:16):
That's not where the wind is.

(00:09:18):
True.

(00:09:19):
And if it floods, you're a fish anyways.

(00:09:21):
Yeah, you can breathe.

(00:09:24):
But does it swirl in there?

(00:09:27):
That's what I'm saying.

(00:09:27):
Is it like a reverse?

(00:09:28):
You know, the whirlpools that people see and get sucked into?

(00:09:31):
Is it reverse for them?

(00:09:32):
They get sucked into the air?

(00:09:34):
Sharknado?

(00:09:35):
We talked to our cousin about that before it happened.

(00:09:37):
We did.

(00:09:39):
She was making fun of us because we're getting ready.

(00:09:41):
Not making fun of us, but saying, you're going to have Sharknado.

(00:09:44):
And then we were like, well, where you live, people are eating cats.

(00:09:48):
During all of this, we have, you know, again.

(00:09:58):
Get it together.

(00:09:58):
I can't.

(00:09:59):
We have family members up north who live in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, all the places, right?

(00:10:04):
Well,

(00:10:05):
while we're going through Hurricane Milton,

(00:10:07):
they're all posting pictures of the northern lights that reached all the way down

(00:10:11):
to mid-America.

(00:10:13):
Yeah.

(00:10:15):
And we're over here like, hi, Nadine.

(00:10:17):
Hi, Oscar.

(00:10:18):
Is that you?

(00:10:19):
Right.

(00:10:21):
Yeah, don't we have two developing?

(00:10:24):
But they're not going to hit us, I don't think.

(00:10:26):
They're in the Atlantic, and one of them is probably going to cross the Pacific.

(00:10:30):
Yeah, I thought one was going through South America and crossing over to the Pacific.

(00:10:35):
I'm just going to bounce off the Bahamas and go back into the Atlantic.

(00:10:40):
Good grief.

(00:10:43):
But that's that cold front.

(00:10:44):
I think they're controlling the weather for sure.

(00:10:45):
We are not going there.

(00:10:47):
I do, though.

(00:10:47):
We're not going there.

(00:10:48):
There's weather control, like cloud seeding devices out there that have been patented and all that stuff.

(00:10:55):
I do believe...

(00:10:57):
that there are some form of weather control like cloud seeding and what is that

(00:11:04):
chem trails all that stuff do you ever when we fly in an airplane do you see that

(00:11:10):
stuff coming out the sides of that thing no come on now you good no okay i could

(00:11:16):
talk all day about this

(00:11:18):
But now that things are starting to really feel slightly back to normal this weekend,

(00:11:24):
we went to a pumpkin patch just today.

(00:11:26):
It was cool.

(00:11:27):
Yeah, that's not where we got the sunburn from.

(00:11:29):
Sunburn was actually yesterday during soccer.

(00:11:32):
The weird thing is it was like 70 degrees outside and it was cold.

(00:11:37):
It's cold for Floridians.

(00:11:38):
Yeah.

(00:11:39):
And we're all out there.

(00:11:40):
Not, I mean, I've got shorts on you.

(00:11:43):
Yeah, we had shorts on, but it was windy.

(00:11:45):
So you couldn't feel the sun on your skin.

(00:11:47):
And then you got home and then you looked at yourself and you're like, ow, it was a delayed reaction.

(00:11:55):
But now that we're,

(00:11:56):
you know,

(00:11:57):
again,

(00:11:57):
getting back to kind of normal,

(00:11:58):
we went to a pumpkin patch and there's a red tide out there.

(00:12:02):
Yeah.

(00:12:02):
The beaches are closed.

(00:12:04):
Plus you got to give this, give, give space to the people that actually live there.

(00:12:08):
Help, you know,

(00:12:10):
Don't pollute their area with traffic and people trash.

(00:12:15):
Let them kind of get back to their normal.

(00:12:19):
Absolutely.

(00:12:19):
Let them get back to our Florida strong.

(00:12:23):
That's right.

(00:12:24):
It's kind of cool, though.

(00:12:25):
I will say that Florida does come together after something like this.

(00:12:30):
Because this was a major, major hurricane.

(00:12:33):
I'm pretty sure there's quite a few people that have died there.

(00:12:39):
And have been displaced and have lost everything.

(00:12:43):
Billions of dollars of damage.

(00:12:45):
Yeah, we're lucky with what we got through, how we got through this hurricane.

(00:12:50):
Certainly lucky compared to many who lost everything, right?

(00:12:56):
So our hearts go out to them for sure.

(00:12:58):
And like Dennis Phillips said, Florida strong.

(00:13:01):
Yeah, for sure.

(00:13:02):
we'll keep going okay switching topics right yeah i know i thought we were supposed

(00:13:06):
to be a comedy podcast we laugh a lot um at ourselves nobody else does somebody

(00:13:14):
does somebody's out there laughing yeah they're laughing at us wasting our time

(00:13:20):
okay yeah i'll talk to you about movies that we watched as kids

(00:13:26):
Right.

(00:13:27):
So a couple of them that comes to mind.

(00:13:30):
Well, I mean, what do you mean?

(00:13:32):
Like watched as kids, like kids movies?

(00:13:34):
No, I'm talking like adult movies that we watched as kids.

(00:13:38):
Oh, so trauma.

(00:13:41):
I mean,

(00:13:41):
you can say Disney back in the day was traumatic because you have Lion King,

(00:13:45):
the dad dying for like 10 minutes.

(00:13:47):
Yeah.

(00:13:48):
Tell me about it.

(00:13:48):
The freaking Land Before Time killed me.

(00:13:51):
Right.

(00:13:51):
So parents getting wrecked by the car pits and stuff and gators.

(00:13:56):
Kind of.

(00:13:59):
But a lot of these movies, I was thinking back like when I first watched them.

(00:14:05):
Right.

(00:14:05):
So Titanic.

(00:14:07):
When did you first watch Titanic?

(00:14:08):
I saw it in the movie theaters.

(00:14:10):
At what age?

(00:14:11):
I don't.

(00:14:11):
When did it come out?

(00:14:13):
I don't know.

(00:14:14):
Well, you got to give me something here.

(00:14:15):
I would.

(00:14:16):
I watched that in the theater.

(00:14:18):
So when you were nine, I watched that in the theater.

(00:14:23):
So I was nine years old.

(00:14:24):
I saw titties when I was nine years old.

(00:14:28):
Okay.

(00:14:30):
So what did I say?

(00:14:31):
It came out in 97.

(00:14:33):
I got it on VHS.

(00:14:34):
Yeah, the 73 box set to VHS.

(00:14:40):
But so I think I was probably a little bit older, so maybe 10 or if you were nine.

(00:14:46):
So I was seven.

(00:14:47):
So maybe eight, eight or nine for me, too, when the VHS came out.

(00:14:51):
It wasn't always immediate.

(00:14:53):
No.

(00:14:53):
Anyways, Jurassic Park.

(00:14:56):
I watched that.

(00:14:57):
I didn't go to the theaters to that, but I did.

(00:14:59):
I think we rented it from Blockbuster.

(00:15:01):
Jurassic Park was 93.

(00:15:02):
Yeah, we rented it from Blockbuster.

(00:15:05):
So I was probably like six or seven.

(00:15:10):
Jaws.

(00:15:12):
I would never let my kid.

(00:15:14):
We're going to get to that.

(00:15:16):
Jaws.

(00:15:18):
To this day, I haven't seen Jaws.

(00:15:22):
I get to learn something about you every day and not in the best way.

(00:15:26):
I've never watched it.

(00:15:27):
You also told me the other day you've never seen, what, Beetlejuice?

(00:15:30):
Yeah, I never watch Beetlejuice.

(00:15:31):
I can't with you.

(00:15:32):
I can't.

(00:15:34):
That stuff is not interesting.

(00:15:36):
Regardless, Jaws, seven years old for me.

(00:15:41):
Yeah, why would you watch that at seven years old?

(00:15:44):
I was at the beach, too, with my family.

(00:15:45):
It was our family vacation.

(00:15:46):
I bet that ruined your entire vacation.

(00:15:48):
Yeah, it was horrible.

(00:15:49):
How did I go into the beach today?

(00:15:51):
Why?

(00:15:51):
I got some jaws.

(00:15:53):
Did you ever watch Clueless?

(00:15:55):
No.

(00:15:56):
No?

(00:15:56):
Okay.

(00:15:56):
I think I was about maybe 10 for Clueless.

(00:16:00):
How about Adam's Family?

(00:16:02):
No.

(00:16:02):
You never watched that?

(00:16:03):
I've never seen that.

(00:16:04):
Okay, I'm going to say 10.

(00:16:05):
I mean, I've seen parts and pieces, but nothing like, not front to back.

(00:16:11):
So we'll stick with Titanic and Jurassic Park for you.

(00:16:13):
Okay?

(00:16:14):
Yeah.

(00:16:14):
Those two.

(00:16:15):
That's valid.

(00:16:17):
When would you let our child,

(00:16:18):
our daughter,

(00:16:19):
who is now nine years old,

(00:16:21):
almost 10,

(00:16:22):
when would you let her watch Titanic and or Jurassic Park?

(00:16:25):
Never.

(00:16:28):
And that's because she is super sensitive.

(00:16:31):
She is.

(00:16:31):
She is a very sensitive child.

(00:16:33):
I will admit that.

(00:16:35):
But even knowing that about her, is there an age?

(00:16:40):
Is there an age?

(00:16:42):
She's going to watch Miraculous Ladybug.

(00:16:46):
And that's it.

(00:16:46):
For the rest of her life.

(00:16:48):
That's it.

(00:16:48):
For the rest of her life.

(00:16:50):
And Paw Patrol.

(00:16:51):
She is very sensitive.

(00:16:55):
She's nine right now.

(00:16:56):
If we let her watch that, she'd be sleeping in our bed until she's 32.

(00:17:01):
Well, I was thinking about The Addams Family the other day.

(00:17:03):
I'm like, oh, that's such a harmless movie.

(00:17:05):
She could watch that.

(00:17:07):
It's weird.

(00:17:08):
I don't think she's seen Wednesday, actually.

(00:17:10):
Well, even Beetlejuice is weird to her.

(00:17:12):
Like, you tried.

(00:17:14):
And she was like, no.

(00:17:18):
She left.

(00:17:20):
So, yeah, I can't imagine our kid watching any of those.

(00:17:24):
And to your point, she's a more sensitive child than I think you or I were.

(00:17:28):
But just any child, like thinking about my nephews, they are.

(00:17:33):
Oh, I'd let them watch Jurassic Park.

(00:17:37):
No, they wouldn't be afraid of it.

(00:17:40):
Our oldest nephew is six and then our youngest is four.

(00:17:43):
So the six year old, you would let him watch Jurassic Park.

(00:17:46):
It wouldn't surprise me if he's already seen it, to be quite honest with you.

(00:17:50):
Well, the older one, I would let watch it because he doesn't seem phased by that stuff.

(00:17:56):
But younger one, maybe I will.

(00:17:59):
I don't know.

(00:18:00):
I would say you can leave if you want.

(00:18:03):
He's not in the four year old is not into movies right now.

(00:18:06):
No, he wasn't.

(00:18:07):
He wouldn't make it.

(00:18:08):
Yeah.

(00:18:09):
Although seeing that dude get drug at the very beginning into that cage.

(00:18:13):
I don't know.

(00:18:14):
He might be out.

(00:18:17):
I still remember that.

(00:18:19):
You see his hand and he's grabbing and then all you see is this.

(00:18:23):
Oh my god.

(00:18:25):
That's a core trauma memory right there.

(00:18:29):
Our parents were out here letting us watch Titanic, which had sexual content.

(00:18:34):
Let us watch Jurassic Park, which people got ate.

(00:18:40):
I mean, the dude got eight while he was dropping a Duke.

(00:18:43):
Right?

(00:18:45):
What a way to go.

(00:18:46):
I mean, that poor T-Rex, he tasted poop.

(00:18:49):
I mean, it's the whole body.

(00:18:52):
You're going to get that anyways.

(00:18:53):
Yeah, but at least you don't have it hitting your tongue where the taste buds are.

(00:18:57):
Okay.

(00:18:58):
It just blows my mind when I was thinking about listing all these movies out in my head,

(00:19:04):
trying to think of things that she could watch that are...

(00:19:07):
age appropriate or something that she'd enjoy.

(00:19:10):
And even Clueless,

(00:19:11):
there's a bunch of kids who are dressing as Clueless in their Halloween costume for

(00:19:15):
this year.

(00:19:15):
And I'm like, wait.

(00:19:19):
I don't know.

(00:19:19):
I don't even know what that movie's about.

(00:19:21):
It's essentially all about losing your virginity.

(00:19:23):
It's about losing your virginity.

(00:19:27):
So having these kids dressed as clueless, I know the outfits are harmless, right?

(00:19:33):
But I don't think I'd ever let her watch it.

(00:19:36):
And not until she was 13 at this point.

(00:19:40):
Right.

(00:19:41):
I mean,

(00:19:41):
she knows what all that stuff...

(00:19:42):
Well,

(00:19:42):
she doesn't really know what virginity is,

(00:19:45):
but she knows what private parts and how babies are made and stuff.

(00:19:50):
Well, yeah.

(00:19:51):
To an extent.

(00:19:52):
She's got the biology of it,

(00:19:53):
if you will,

(00:19:54):
but...

(00:19:54):
She's not like...

(00:19:55):
I don't think she knows what has to happen.

(00:19:59):
Right.

(00:20:00):
The drive behind it.

(00:20:02):
I'm not trying to break her innocence of that.

(00:20:04):
Not until she's...

(00:20:06):
Honestly, she's going to learn that at school before she learns it from me.

(00:20:10):
And I'm not saying from school school.

(00:20:13):
I'm saying from friends at school.

(00:20:16):
Yeah.

(00:20:16):
That's where you learn a lot.

(00:20:17):
That's like a rite of passage.

(00:20:19):
Yeah.

(00:20:21):
Where you come home and ask questions.

(00:20:23):
And you're like, Mom, what the what is that?

(00:20:26):
And you're like, oh, shit, man.

(00:20:29):
We're at that age.

(00:20:30):
All right.

(00:20:31):
Here we go.

(00:20:31):
Yeah.

(00:20:33):
Well, speaking of Halloween, have you heard what the top costumes for this year are going to be?

(00:20:39):
Elsa.

(00:20:41):
No.

(00:20:43):
Good guess, but no.

(00:20:44):
So I've got the top 15 here on a list.

(00:20:46):
I don't know.

(00:20:47):
Guess any of them.

(00:20:48):
The top one will Wednesday.

(00:20:52):
Wednesday's up there.

(00:20:53):
It's got to be Wednesday.

(00:20:55):
Wednesday did not make the list.

(00:20:58):
This country is going to hell.

(00:21:00):
Okay.

(00:21:01):
Well, it's been like two years since the season came out.

(00:21:04):
Yeah.

(00:21:04):
I'm waiting on season two.

(00:21:05):
Kamala Harris?

(00:21:07):
No.

(00:21:07):
People don't want to dress up as a stack of shit.

(00:21:11):
Russell Allen.

(00:21:11):
You're going to have to take that out.

(00:21:15):
No, it's too late.

(00:21:18):
I said you're first and middle.

(00:21:19):
That's okay.

(00:21:27):
She fucking almost full named me.

(00:21:29):
Yeah.

(00:21:30):
No, you're going to have to take that out.

(00:21:32):
No, I'm not.

(00:21:33):
Okay, so I have a list in front of me.

(00:21:38):
She scolded me on the podcast.

(00:21:40):
I'm going to cry.

(00:21:42):
Go ahead.

(00:21:46):
You ready?

(00:21:46):
Yeah, I'm good.

(00:21:48):
So I have a list of the top 15 costumes for this year.

(00:21:52):
oh i see one of them no you're cheating like wolverine and deadpool wolverine and

(00:21:58):
deadpool i said i just saw lady deadpool yes lady deadpool there's actually a call

(00:22:03):
out i guess in the deadpool and wolverine movie but i haven't watched it yet um to

(00:22:07):
lady deadpool yes and i think it's actually blake lively who's lady deadpool oh is

(00:22:12):
it really i think so yeah but i don't think it's not like a huge part no no no i

(00:22:16):
get it but there was a lot of

(00:22:20):
What do you call it?

(00:22:21):
Controversy?

(00:22:21):
No, not controversy, but people, all kinds of superheroes showing up.

(00:22:26):
I thought it was kind of cool.

(00:22:29):
Like Channing Tatum was Gambit and stuff.

(00:22:33):
I can't wait to watch it.

(00:22:34):
We don't typically go to the movies much anymore.

(00:22:38):
More watch them at home on the band.

(00:22:39):
It's because it's too expensive.

(00:22:42):
It costs a lot of money to go in there because you want popcorn.

(00:22:45):
You've got to have movie popcorn.

(00:22:47):
Yeah.

(00:22:47):
Then you got to have 37 gallons of Coke.

(00:22:51):
Yep.

(00:22:51):
All that.

(00:22:52):
They don't have a regular size.

(00:22:54):
Can I please have a thimble of Coke?

(00:23:00):
no we haven't gotten to the movies in a while i think the last one was what super

(00:23:03):
mario yeah yeah we took took our kiddo because plus we wanted to see the new

(00:23:08):
theater that where we live man i tell you what though nice chairs you can put the

(00:23:14):
fucking most expensive nap you'll ever take okay focus back to the costumes so top

(00:23:19):
15 uh i don't know wolverine's not on there no

(00:23:25):
Deadpool and man Deadpool is not on there.

(00:23:27):
No.

(00:23:27):
Let's see.

(00:23:28):
That's strange.

(00:23:29):
Yeah.

(00:23:30):
You'll probably never guess what number one is.

(00:23:32):
I'm going to tell you.

(00:23:32):
Ready?

(00:23:33):
Yeah.

(00:23:34):
It is shrunken head Bob.

(00:23:35):
He is from Beetlejuice.

(00:23:36):
The little.

(00:23:37):
Yeah.

(00:23:37):
I know who that is.

(00:23:38):
Shrunken head Bob is number one.

(00:23:40):
I'm surprised by that.

(00:23:42):
So I don't know how much I believe this list.

(00:23:43):
Yeah.

(00:23:44):
No.

(00:23:45):
But that's number one.

(00:23:46):
Number two is Ray Gunn.

(00:23:49):
Fuck it.

(00:23:51):
The breakdancer from the Olympics.

(00:23:53):
Oh, that's valid.

(00:23:54):
That's a good one.

(00:23:54):
Yeah, because everybody can be a breakdancer now.

(00:23:56):
Uh-huh.

(00:23:57):
That's a good one.

(00:23:58):
I thought it was really good.

(00:24:00):
Catnap from Poppy's Playtime.

(00:24:02):
Okay.

(00:24:03):
Yeah.

(00:24:04):
Whatever that means.

(00:24:05):
Dolores from Beetlejuice.

(00:24:07):
So, Catherine O'Hara.

(00:24:08):
I got nothing.

(00:24:10):
Okay.

(00:24:11):
You know who Catherine O'Hara is?

(00:24:12):
Yeah.

(00:24:13):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

(00:24:15):
Okay.

(00:24:15):
Yeah.

(00:24:16):
Right.

(00:24:16):
Get it together here.

(00:24:18):
Pomni from the Amazing Digital Circus.

(00:24:21):
Never heard of it.

(00:24:22):
Envy from Inside Out.

(00:24:24):
Inside Out has a bunch of them on here.

(00:24:26):
So anger, disgust, anxiety.

(00:24:28):
Yeah.

(00:24:29):
So all of those are on this list.

(00:24:31):
That's usually how it is.

(00:24:33):
There's a big something that comes out.

(00:24:35):
Like Elsa was huge for seven years after Frozen came out.

(00:24:40):
Well, wait till the next Frozen comes out.

(00:24:42):
Frozen 3 is coming out and it'll be all over again.

(00:24:45):
Big ol' hype.

(00:24:46):
Then Red from Descendants, which is a Disney movie.

(00:24:50):
And then Doctor Doom because we have Robert Downey Jr.

(00:24:54):
who's going to be Doctor Doom.

(00:24:56):
It's going to be some alternate universe bullshit.

(00:24:57):
How whack-ass shit is that?

(00:24:59):
I can't.

(00:25:00):
I don't like it either.

(00:25:01):
Don't get me started on that whole thing.

(00:25:03):
Yeah, it's bad.

(00:25:04):
They said supposedly I read a thing somewhere online about why they did that.

(00:25:09):
And it's because the Marvel movies have tanked.

(00:25:14):
They suck.

(00:25:15):
Yep.

(00:25:16):
And bringing back Robert Downey Jr.

(00:25:19):
Was a way to try to drum up interest.

(00:25:21):
And I don't truthfully, I don't think it's going to work.

(00:25:24):
Me either.

(00:25:25):
They're.

(00:25:27):
I don't know.

(00:25:28):
Disney is not on the right track.

(00:25:30):
I don't think Star Wars, they've ruined it.

(00:25:33):
They've thrown all this weird shit into Star Wars.

(00:25:36):
It's like, just make me a sci-fi movie, man.

(00:25:39):
So the next one is... Don't you... Stop.

(00:25:43):
It's my podcast, too.

(00:25:45):
Uh-huh, it is.

(00:25:46):
The next one is Sabrina Carpenter.

(00:25:50):
I figured that.

(00:25:51):
That's a big one right now.

(00:25:53):
It's all over the place.

(00:25:55):
We already said Lady Deadpool and then a Chipotle burrito.

(00:25:59):
If you dress as a burrito, you actually get free Chipotles is what I heard.

(00:26:02):
Well, then why the fuck?

(00:26:04):
Why isn't that number one?

(00:26:06):
Or is it just your costume?

(00:26:07):
One of the two.

(00:26:08):
I thought if you just dressed up and went there, you would get something.

(00:26:11):
Yeah, something like that.

(00:26:12):
Anyways.

(00:26:13):
Oh, Wolverine is on here.

(00:26:14):
Okay.

(00:26:14):
It was number 14.

(00:26:15):
You lying.

(00:26:16):
I did.

(00:26:17):
My bad.

(00:26:18):
15.

(00:26:18):
Burrito.

(00:26:20):
No, 11 was the Chipotle burrito, but I already said all the inside outs and then.

(00:26:23):
Oh, okay.

(00:26:24):
Wolverine.

(00:26:25):
I got you.

(00:26:26):
Yeah.

(00:26:26):
So Deadpool's not on there, but Wolverine is.

(00:26:29):
Lady Deadpool is on there.

(00:26:31):
That's nice.

(00:26:33):
Who runs the world?

(00:26:38):
So, we talked about those Halloween costumes.

(00:26:43):
Yes, what else looks really crazy and weird and looks like a costume, but I guess was actually a robot?

(00:26:50):
Optimus.

(00:26:51):
Yeah.

(00:26:54):
Yeah.

(00:26:55):
Yep.

(00:26:55):
I've got big concerns.

(00:26:59):
I do.

(00:26:59):
Well...

(00:27:01):
I do, too, to a point.

(00:27:03):
I think AI.

(00:27:05):
So what we're talking about is Optimus, Elon Musk, Tesla.

(00:27:10):
They are developing a robot called Optimus,

(00:27:12):
and it's supposed to be like a in your house all the time on help you do everything.

(00:27:19):
Mow your grass, help you do dishes, laundry.

(00:27:23):
It's like your personal companion robot.

(00:27:25):
It's like C-3PO from Star Wars for all my Star Wars nerds.

(00:27:28):
Or if you know the movie, I robot.

(00:27:30):
Yes, exactly.

(00:27:31):
Exactly.

(00:27:32):
It's supposed to be that where it's essentially like a family member and he, they, they had an event.

(00:27:41):
I think it's been like two weeks now and they showed it off and it,

(00:27:46):
it's,

(00:27:47):
it looks a lot like I robot,

(00:27:51):
even the,

(00:27:51):
the bus that it rode in on,

(00:27:53):
like those things rode in on to start walking around.

(00:27:56):
It looked like I robot.

(00:27:58):
Hmm.

(00:27:58):
And I don't know if that is that is that wise branding or is that unwise branding?

(00:28:03):
Because I robot is an apocalyptic type movie.

(00:28:06):
I think it's wise because people are going to say it anyways.

(00:28:08):
Right.

(00:28:09):
People are going to say it anyway.

(00:28:10):
So why not lean into it?

(00:28:12):
Well, Elon is a no known sci fi nerd.

(00:28:15):
I mean, he loves that stuff like Starship.

(00:28:20):
But I don't know.

(00:28:21):
I think branding wise, it was a smart decision.

(00:28:25):
But overall, I mean, you're going to have those thoughts anyways.

(00:28:29):
You're going to say that it looks like iRobot,

(00:28:31):
that this feels like iRobot,

(00:28:32):
that it's similar to an iRobot situation.

(00:28:34):
What's going to happen, right?

(00:28:36):
The whole idea of Terminator, the whole idea of all these other AIs gone wrong, right?

(00:28:42):
You're going to say it anyways.

(00:28:43):
You're going to draw those conclusions.

(00:28:45):
Lean into it.

(00:28:46):
But the actual,

(00:28:47):
I think it was either the movie creator or the director of iRobot said,

(00:28:50):
can I get my designs back to Elon Musk?

(00:28:54):
I thought it was funny.

(00:28:56):
I mean, I don't, I see.

(00:28:59):
I disagree with that.

(00:29:01):
And the reason why I disagree with that is because the robot itself is designed to look human.

(00:29:06):
It's like, okay, then you need to go talk to God.

(00:29:11):
Give his designs back.

(00:29:13):
I mean, that's stupid.

(00:29:15):
No, I just thought it was funny.

(00:29:16):
The bus thing, I will say, though, it did look very similar to the transport in iRobot.

(00:29:22):
But the robots themselves, it's like you're trying to make them human looking so that people accept them.

(00:29:30):
You can't make it look like

(00:29:33):
Something with razor blade.

(00:29:34):
Yes.

(00:29:35):
I mean, you got to make it look friendly so people will buy it.

(00:29:38):
Right.

(00:29:38):
But it's supposed to be what?

(00:29:39):
20 to 30,000 bucks, I think.

(00:29:41):
So he thinks that everyday people can afford them and have them in their home.

(00:29:46):
Yeah, I don't know about that.

(00:29:47):
Can we talk?

(00:29:49):
That's a lot of money.

(00:29:50):
20 to 30.

(00:29:51):
I think if it's the value that you can get out of one of them things,

(00:29:56):
if it's as good...

(00:29:57):
Yeah,

(00:29:58):
I'm sure you could.

(00:30:00):
You could probably do pretty...

(00:30:02):
It would be worth the money,

(00:30:04):
I think,

(00:30:04):
if it did what it was supposed to do.

(00:30:06):
I don't know.

(00:30:07):
But...

(00:30:09):
You're going to talk about them being remoted?

(00:30:12):
Yeah.

(00:30:13):
So, I guess it was supposed to come across, right, that these robots, the Optimus robot, was being...

(00:30:26):
I integrated with AI.

(00:30:27):
It was mingling amongst the crowd with no human intervention.

(00:30:32):
That's what the idea was behind this presentation.

(00:30:37):
Right.

(00:30:37):
That's what they said.

(00:30:39):
But in actuality, it was actually being piloted is what people are coming to believe.

(00:30:45):
Well, it wasn't being.

(00:30:47):
So the robots themselves, they were walking themselves.

(00:30:51):
Yes.

(00:30:51):
That was AI.

(00:30:52):
Yes.

(00:30:53):
The other stuff was human assisted.

(00:30:57):
Yes.

(00:30:58):
Interaction between people.

(00:31:00):
People could order drinks and the robot would give it.

(00:31:04):
But they would actually talk, right?

(00:31:05):
Like, okay, well, what do you have?

(00:31:07):
Well, we have this, this, and this.

(00:31:09):
That was actually somebody.

(00:31:10):
I don't know.

(00:31:11):
I don't know because there was a word that somebody kept saying to it and it kept

(00:31:16):
stumbling over the word and it was like a basic word.

(00:31:19):
I don't know what it was, but.

(00:31:22):
Yeah.

(00:31:23):
But also the other thing that lends more evidence against it being like a real AI

(00:31:31):
robot rummaging and socializing amongst the crowd.

(00:31:37):
Tesla just got caught speeding up a video of Optimus doing things in the factory, I think.

(00:31:43):
So it made it look like it was like super efficient.

(00:31:45):
Yeah.

(00:31:48):
Come on, man.

(00:31:49):
I love Elon and I think he's doing awesome stuff,

(00:31:52):
but I don't think this is nearly as close to being ready as they're selling it.

(00:31:57):
I know they have to do this shit for investors.

(00:31:59):
Right.

(00:32:00):
Absolutely.

(00:32:01):
It looked fake as fuck.

(00:32:04):
Yeah.

(00:32:05):
And I mean, I like you said, I get it right.

(00:32:08):
They're close.

(00:32:08):
They're getting close, but they're probably not as close as they're trying to make us believe.

(00:32:12):
Well, I think Elon's biggest thing is technology expands and evolves quickly.

(00:32:20):
Yes.

(00:32:21):
Like exponentially.

(00:32:22):
Mm hmm.

(00:32:23):
once you do one thing, it like triples the next step or whatever, you know?

(00:32:28):
And I think that's his idea, but he's been promising self-driving cars since I can't remember.

(00:32:36):
It's been years.

(00:32:37):
Yeah.

(00:32:38):
And we're still not there yet.

(00:32:40):
Yeah.

(00:32:40):
Although the taxis that they had as part of this event as well.

(00:32:44):
Yeah.

(00:32:44):
But that was such a,

(00:32:46):
Right.

(00:32:46):
It was almost like on a track.

(00:32:47):
It was.

(00:32:48):
I think it was at Universal Studios.

(00:32:51):
So it was in a contained environment.

(00:32:53):
It wasn't like driving on a city street with real traffic, real uncertainty of human drivers.

(00:33:02):
Right.

(00:33:02):
people walking out in front of you, stuff like that.

(00:33:05):
It looks cool.

(00:33:06):
And I do hope it comes true.

(00:33:08):
Me too.

(00:33:09):
Because driving is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a person.

(00:33:15):
You can get killed like nothing.

(00:33:18):
And if we can take that control away from people and put it into somebody's somebody,

(00:33:23):
a robot's hand that can actually do a bajillion processes a second,

(00:33:31):
and notice things, or even they all communicate to each other.

(00:33:34):
And you'd rather drive than fly.

(00:33:36):
I can't with you.

(00:33:37):
I can't fly, man.

(00:33:38):
I don't know.

(00:33:39):
Getting off topic.

(00:33:40):
But the overarching idea of one of these robots, would you have one in our house?

(00:33:46):
Yeah.

(00:33:47):
I mean, I wouldn't pay $30,000 for it unless I was rich, but I'd have one.

(00:33:53):
Why are you looking at me like that for?

(00:33:57):
Because of the uprising?

(00:33:58):
Yeah.

(00:33:58):
that is a huge difference between us then because i don't know if i could get

(00:34:02):
around having that thing in our house you you say that so weird you say that until

(00:34:08):
that motherfucker folds laundry well like if you think about it i mean but if you

(00:34:15):
think about it like we've had you know the alexa we've had the google we've had the

(00:34:20):
i home like all of the things right

(00:34:23):
Had to look around and make sure none of our devices are listening.

(00:34:26):
But you've had all those things in the house and a lot of people don't like them, right?

(00:34:30):
Because they're intrusive.

(00:34:31):
They are always listening.

(00:34:32):
They're whatever.

(00:34:33):
Yeah, but these are the same people that carry around a smartphone.

(00:34:38):
True, but they are tiny, right?

(00:34:40):
They are small.

(00:34:41):
They're almost like not noticeable unless you know they're in the house and then

(00:34:45):
you say the name and then it does the thing,

(00:34:47):
right?

(00:34:48):
So they're not intrusive.

(00:34:49):
You're talking about having something that almost moves and acts like another human.

(00:34:56):
Yeah.

(00:34:57):
In your house.

(00:34:58):
Right, but if it gives you that much benefit... But it doesn't have a personality.

(00:35:06):
I'm sure you could probably have conversations with it because it's AI, right?

(00:35:09):
You can.

(00:35:10):
I recommend people listening try either Gemini Live.

(00:35:14):
Well, use Gemini Live if you have an Android phone.

(00:35:17):
That was mind-blowing to me.

(00:35:20):
I just I don't think I would be able to get over that hump of having something

(00:35:24):
that's almost like taking up a whole space as another person.

(00:35:27):
Yeah, but that's a generational thing, too.

(00:35:29):
You got to think people like us, we're hesitant, but people like our kid.

(00:35:36):
Or her kid one day.

(00:35:37):
Yeah, or her kid.

(00:35:38):
Like if this comes out while our kid is still young, she'll get used to it quick.

(00:35:45):
And then her kids, that's what they have in their house.

(00:35:49):
It's normal.

(00:35:50):
It's the Jetsons, right?

(00:35:52):
Yeah.

(00:35:52):
Like, oh, hey, Optimus is mowing the lawn.

(00:35:55):
Imagine driving through your neighborhood.

(00:35:59):
And all you see is a bunch of optimists outside mowing the grass.

(00:36:02):
And they wave at each other?

(00:36:03):
Well, they wave at you when you drive by.

(00:36:05):
Hey!

(00:36:05):
And they're like, hey, what's up, bitch?

(00:36:08):
No.

(00:36:10):
I don't know.

(00:36:11):
I feel weird about that one.

(00:36:12):
I don't know.

(00:36:14):
Yeah, and then you have your rogue AI that goes in there and... He kills everybody.

(00:36:19):
Yeah.

(00:36:19):
No.

(00:36:20):
They're already in your house.

(00:36:22):
Just sleeping and they're not...

(00:36:24):
I mean, Amazon's got the Astro.

(00:36:28):
That's super basic, but it still knows how to navigate through your house.

(00:36:33):
You've seen that, right?

(00:36:34):
Like the mobile Alexa thing.

(00:36:37):
Not in here.

(00:36:38):
Okay.

(00:36:39):
All right.

(00:36:39):
So we talked about some strange things today as far as that robot goes.

(00:36:45):
In my opinion, it's strange.

(00:36:46):
I can't wrap my head around it.

(00:36:47):
But I wanted to end today with what is the strangest compliment you have ever thought about giving me?

(00:36:54):
I found this question.

(00:36:58):
I found this question from like a couple's, um, like not a therapy couples book couple.

(00:37:05):
Like it said, like how to stay connected with your partner.

(00:37:08):
Right.

(00:37:09):
One of these questions.

(00:37:11):
So what's the strangest compliment you ever thought about giving me?

(00:37:15):
I'll give you a minute.

(00:37:16):
I've got mine.

(00:37:17):
You're a good cuddler.

(00:37:19):
And that's not strange though.

(00:37:22):
But how is that a straight?

(00:37:23):
That's a normal compliment.

(00:37:27):
How is that strange?

(00:37:28):
The other one was, you're really good at laser hair removal.

(00:37:32):
See, that's strange.

(00:37:34):
That is strange.

(00:37:35):
You did a really good job on my laser hair removal.

(00:37:37):
We got the Braun device at home, and it's working really well.

(00:37:41):
You do a very good job at it.

(00:37:44):
See, that's strange, but good cuddler, that's not strange.

(00:37:46):
Well, I'm sure you'd be nice, okay?

(00:37:49):
I don't know.

(00:37:52):
You're really good at folding clothes.

(00:37:58):
But you want to replace me with Optimus.

(00:38:00):
Well, it'd save you time and we could do more podcasts.

(00:38:04):
Yeah.

(00:38:04):
Spend more time with the fam.

(00:38:06):
Love you.

(00:38:07):
Maybe next weekend.

(00:38:08):
Love you.
